This past weekend, the energy at Linton Bay Marina was electrifying as we gathered to celebrate an extraordinary milestone, Rüdiger Koch’s record-breaking achievement of living underwater for an unprecedented 120 days.

Hosted by Ocean Builders, the event was nothing short of spectacular, with vibrant Congo dancers, refreshments, and an atmosphere brimming with excitement.

As Rudy emerged from his underwater room, refreshed and triumphant, he was met with a crowd of supporters who had followed his journey over the past four months. This moment was not just about setting a world record; it was a testament to the future of sustainable ocean living.

The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Guinness World Record Official, Susana Reyes, who formally certified Rudy’s record for the longest time spent living in an underwater fixed habitat. Also in attendance was the Mayor of Portobelo, Honorable Carlos Chavarría, who expressed his pride in this achievement and its significance for Panama.

Ocean Builders, pioneers in sustainable floating homes, have been at the forefront of ocean innovation, and Rüdiger’s feat is a defining moment in making floating cities a reality.

As Rudy took the stage, he reflected on his journey, holding his award in hand. “Wow, that was quite an adventure. It feels like waking up from a dream,” he remarked. He urged everyone to look beyond conventional living and explore the potential of the oceans. He spoke of the responsibility that comes with innovation, highlighting that technology can either drive us toward destruction or lead us to a better, more sustainable future. Rudy and Ocean Builders firmly believe in the latter. We are building a future where the ocean is not just a resource but a home.

Beyond the record, Rudy took the opportunity to shed light on an urgent environmental issue: the invasion of lionfish in Panama’s waters. These predatory fish have been devastating coral reef ecosystems for decades, yet many locals avoid them due to misconceptions about their toxicity. Rudy encouraged everyone to help control the population by adding lionfish to their diets, emphasizing that not only are they safe to eat, but they are also quite delicious.

As the event drew to a close, Rudy was asked whether he had plans for another world record. With a smile, he responded, “We are trying to break records by putting SeaPods into the water and making the oceans our home.” Looking ahead, Ocean Builders announced an exciting new collaboration with Reef Restoration Panama pioneer, Juan Carlos Blanco. The Deepwater SeaPod will soon be established as a world-class ocean research center, advancing marine conservation while showcasing the vast potential of underwater rooms for scientific exploration.

With more groundbreaking innovations on the horizon, the future of ocean living has never been more promising. As we continue to push the boundaries of sustainable floating habitats, exciting developments await.

Stay tuned for our next blog, where we’ll unveil the next chapter of Ocean Builders, pioneering a new era of floating homes on the ocean!
