Deep Water Model Progress Report

Deep Water Model Progress Report

Less than 1 minute Reading TIme: Minutes

The SeaPod models that you have been seeing us work on during the last year have been designed for shallow water, no more than 25 meters(or about 80 feet) deep. These designs are mounted on the TriPod base which provides all of the buoyancy, stabilization, and structure.

We have a different approach for the deep water model. The deep water SeaPods will obviously be in deeper water, which opens up more locations but also brings different challenges. We will be using a different method for our buoyancy and balance on these deep water models.

You can take a look at the first version of what the underwater structure for the deep water SeaPods will look like. Above the water, not much has changed except we don’t have the three side spars from the floating TriPod. When we dive below the surface, things begin to look very different.

We start with a look at the underwater room which features six 1-meter windows that will turn the ocean into a reverse aquarium of sorts. The center spar also has three braces that will be made of steel tubing that will help keep everything securely in place. The bottom of the room will have our artificial coral which will attract marine life to ensure that you always have a bustling ecosystem just outside of your window.

Below the underwater room is a large steel truss structure that has a very heavy weight at the bottom. This weight will keep the structure from swaying side to side and the buoyancy from the underwater room and other sections will keep the home floating at the right level in the water. The three anchor lines will run from the bottom of the underwater room to keep the home from drifting in the water.

We had the steel specially made for us and it has been completed and approved. We should receive the steel in mid-November and we will get to work on construction once we receive it. The deep water Pod is an ambitious goal but we are sure that through our research, simulations, and testing, we will see success!
